On Saturday me and JP went for a meal out in Vancouver, and ended up in a mock English pub, it was a bit weird, you could have been in any slightly crappy pub in the UK. The staff were putting on English accents as well, which was pretty hilarious. On our way back we saw some filming going on ( a lot of Hollywood stuff is filmed in Vancouver because its cheaper than the States) so we decided to have a saunter down the road and see what was going on, as no one stopped us. It was only a minute before they started filming that someone spotted us stood in the crowd scene for some FBI crime scene piece -as we were pointing- that we were asked to leave! Next day we went across the bay to Lighthouse park (photos to follow soon) this time it was lots of volcanic rock cliffs and sea based scenery. It was a really sunny day as well, with a nice cooling breeze. After that we walked across the suspension bridge back to Central Vancouver, and got some nice views of both North and South Vancouver. Then another walk around South park. Me and JP decided that the only way you could translate the chat up line "is your name Jacobs? Because your a cracker" is "Is your name Rytz? Because your a salty snack." Don't think its going to work as well. Because I left it so late to rebook a room at the Hostel I'm currently staying in they were fully booked, and I had to move to another Hostel in a slightly dodgyer part of town. It is 4 quid cheaper a night mind, and my new drunken Irish room mate sceems a nice chap. In the last hostel we had another German room mate, who is really friendly, but lacks the ninja quietness that most Germans have.... but still gets up at 7AM! He woke up everyone in the room today, glad to get away from there for a bit.
Also the great job hunt is still ongoing, got another couple of leads this morning and going to continue pushing hard this afternoon. Spoke to an English guy at breakfast this morning who had got a job in 1 day! ONE DAY! Thats got to be some kind of record. He said he started at 9 and finished and 5, and went into every place he could. So I'm going to start trying to do that as well. When I handed over an application form this morning for an organic coffee shop, the lady there said I would probably hear from her in the next few days.... after already saying she didn't have any vacancies straight away. A lot of people seem to outright lie to you when it comes to jobs out here, you really have to work hard to get anywere. Still, I think I'm getting the hang of it now, the secret seems to be to smile to the exstent that people suspect you might be metally damaged.
