So Monday, I did sod all, read a bit of my book and got a good nights sleep. Tuesday I was meant to meet up with some work colleagues for a drinks and Karaoke, with the night starting at Joeys at 7. Only thing is when I got there I couldn't find them, and didn't have anyone who was goings phone numbers. So ended up going home feeling a tad stupid. Another early night at least. Wednesday me and Joe decided to go for a couple of drinks, and ended up in Gas town. We ended up in a bar in which we were literally the only people in there along with a very board bar man, they were obviously expecting a lot of happy customers though, as they had four empty tip jars lined up on the bar. Thursday. Did Sod all.
Then comes Friday. After receiving my horrifically wrong pay cheque I left work, grabbed my weekend kit from my humble abode, and headed for the greyhound stop bus station. I got talking to (well... talked at) by the bus nutter in the line to board. But he was interesting guy (he lived in the woods in a trailer up in the mountains, got his bikes from dumpsters, and told me a good place to find a cheap bike) but I had mixed emotions when he decided not to sit next to me on the bus (thank god... hang on, why doesn't he want to sit next to me?). I arrived in Whistler at 9.24. By 9:52 I had dumped my stuff at Chloe's pad, changed, and boarded a new bus to take us to Whistler village. Whistler is notoriously expensive, but as its not ski season at the moment and we found plenty of cheap deals on drinks at a few bars. A night out in Whistler is a bit odd, as no one dresses up, every one is in hoodys, jeans, t-shirts and trainers. Chloe's house mates went out in shirts once, and got loads of stick, one guy said he had been in Whistler 10 years, and it was the first time he had seen people in shirts on a night out. Also Whistler village is a little odd its self, it has all been built in the last 20 years, but all the buildings look 200 years old, even the meandering street layout seems medieval European in style. Then the location in the middle of mountains with the snow and clouds give it a magical feel. Its like Bowser from Mario, Walt Disney, and Lawrence Lowen-Bowing got together for the town planning. We got back at 1ish, were I met her new 7 housemates. They were all drunk, and whispering as Chloe's only other female house mate was asleep. They had been to a wet t-shirt competition at some bar, sounded like they had a good time.
Saturday! I woke up around 8 ish with a raging hang over, and couldn't get back to sleep. Me and Chloe stayed in bed until 2ish as a protest, like Yoko and Lennon, but with a lot less media attention, well, any attention. When we did get up we were surprised to find it had been snowing the entire day, and the mountains were all now snow covered, as well as cloud capped. It was really beautiful, even if it was fooking freezing. In the afternoon, we headed into the village, first stop Mc donalds for some hangover grub. While in there we saw 2 German Olympians in there full kit, and 2 other unknown Olympians in there garb. After, we went to watch Where the wild things are a cracking film that is probably going to be this generations Labyrinth. The plot was rubbish, and the story just seemed to amble along, and it was Way to deep for kids. But the art style (they used Jim Henderson style models, then just CGI'd the faces on, and had some unbelievable scenery) saved it, it was kind of like being in a dream, but I was very hung over. The kids watching the film hadn't got a clue what was going on, and soon got bored and entertained themselves -and me- with antics that included pouring drink on his dads crotch, and standing on a seat, then it tilting upwards, and swallowing him whole. After we got back we weren't in the mood for another night out, so we watched Russel Howard's Good news week on YouTube, and did the washing up, after the meal that Chloe's housemates had made for us. While doing the washing up, I managed to some how pull a door in the kitchen clean of its hinges, we tried to bodge it back together again, but failed, great first impression Greg.
Sunday! After getting a fairly good nights sleep on Saturday night me and Chloe went and grabbed some food from a steamworks italian chain restaurant in Whistler village, the food was cheap and tasted good, its one of the few chain restaurants who's food I will happily eat.... the earlier Mc Donalds was purely medicinal. Afterwards it was time for me to head home on the 1:35-round-the-houses greyhound back to Vancouver. As it was daytime, I got to see the sea-to-sky highway in all its glory, now complete with snow topped mountains, as the bus slowly descended from the mountains through cloud, and back down into Vancouver. Got home. Washed clothes. Cleaned room. Work tomorrow. :-(
