I know its been a while, but couldn't be bothered last week. So this one will cover the last two weeks. So two weeks ago on Tuesday me and Chloe went for her leaving meal at Templetons. The waitress new exactly what to get Chloe but not me, because I "mix it up", ahh yea. We also had two pitchers of cream ale, and got pretty drunk. Which felt a bit wrong since we always get the same nice waitress, it was like getting drunk in front of your parents, I felt like I should explain myself. Chloe left on Wednesday to do the ski season up in Whistler, so I've got a contact up there now. Nothing much happened for the rest of the week. On Friday me JP and Rosie went out for a couple of drinks on Granville street. Saturday I stayed in, and got a bit of cabin fever, its not right doing nothing on a Saturday night, but I did get to talk to Dave S on-line when he got home drunk, which was pretty funny. Sunday I did my weekly shop, and constructed Rosie's Birthday present. Which was a Victoria sponge cake covered in icing, jelly baby's and maltiers spelling '21'. It looked like a tasty color blindness test. Sunday evening we got to meet JP's parents! We currently have a plan to get our parents out for a group meal as each set visits from the UK. It was a good night, they reminded me of my parents, but I think that's just because I have seen a middle aged English couple in a long time. They also payed for the meal which was really nice of them. Especially as me and Rosie drank more than we probably should have.
Monday was Rosie's Birthday, so our little gang came round my place, ate cake and drank rum and coke, before heading up to Mount Pleasant to grab some food. Mount pleasant being the ultra hip neighbourhood about 10 minutes walk from my house. We found this cracking little vegetarian restaurant that was candle lit and played dub music. I had peanut butter pasta, and it was Really nice. I was almost tempted to go Veggie again. Almost.
Last Tuesday I met Rosie for a drink, we went out in Yaletown in this cracking little pool haul, the serving girl had a massive tattoo of a butterfly, that would mean instant unemployment in the UK. On Friday me Rosie and JP went for a couple of drinks.... that accidentally turned into a couple of pitchers. Highlights included me loosing my wallet in a pizza place, and some one handed it in, including the $50! I also lost my brolly, but after re-finding my wallet, I let that slide. Also a Very drunk girl in the booth next to us was singing at the top of her voice, and completely out of tune. We also went back the arcade and blew a few more quarters on Tetris. Got to level 4 this time.... JP got to level 5 on his first go. I like the adverts they display in between the demo's and stuff that say "winners don't use drugs" and have a picture of the American Congressional seal. As if people who take drugs are thinking "Ahhh... now I won't be a winner anymore." On Saturday me and JP went to Templetons and had some food. I had the good old lentil loaf, our normal waitress was in a particularly good mood, and didn't charge us for our drinks, she's the best. Sunday I did crappy tasks like cleaning my room and washing. Highlights were buying a $6 Thai style single cup coffee filter, allowing me to have have fresh brew dollar store coffee. Its surprisingly good. That was literally the highlight of my day.
So the week before last I felt a bit down, it had been raining a lot, and it felt for the first time in a while that things had kinda ground to a halt. But since then I've got Evil Dead the musical to look forward to, a trip up Grouse mountain, and a trip up to Whistler the week after. Also not going on an adventure every other weekend has allowed me to save a bit more cash as well. So I've stopped getting my knickers in a twist.
Quote time!
Me:- "Yea, I made a bit of an idiot of myself at the Canadian Border"
JP's Dad:- "You? Make an idiot out of yourself? I find that hard to believe Greg!"
He had known me about... seven minutes I'd guess.
Random topic:- China Town. If you want a really bizarre experience, do your weekly shop in China town with a hangover. Its what I do most weeks and its cracking. No one speaks in English, not even on the supermarket tannoy. Theres a little old guy selling Chinese papers, and people look at you as you walk down the street as if to say "whats a white guy doing here". Also when I cash my pay cheque at HSBC, the guy behind the counter bows to me when he says goodbye. You can buy everything from the market shops from dried lizard on a stick to.... dried squid on a stick. If you want something dried and on a stick, you'll find it. Its also crazily cheap. I bought some plain t-shirts in various colours the other day, and they were 3 for $10, so that's about two quid each. The other bizarre thing is, I'm completely used to it now, none of it seems strange, not even the dried lizards on a stick.
